“Breathing Art—Books, Naturally”

Long Beach, CA book artist and curator Sue Ann Robinson shares her recent work in collaboration with her 96-years-young mother, Peg Robinson, who describes the process as “breathing art.” Their collaboration, Books, Naturally, has been exhibited around Southern California in Revisiting Beauty at the Orange County Center for Contemporary Art, Books as Sculpture at La Sierra University, and Memories Touch at CSU Channel Islands. She will also share the work of other book artists included in exhibitions at the Long Beach Museum of Art, and recently, in 21 Artists Create Books at CSU Dominguez Hills. Robinson first lectured for us in 1993, “Long Trail, Fast Life,” at OUGL. In 1999 she did both a workshop for BAG and a lecture. In 2011, she was the recipient of a grant from the Long Beach Arts Council. This summer she will present a book arts series with a grant from the Marcella Brenner Trust at the Long Beach Museum of Art where she is the Director of Collections.
