Long Stitch Over Tapes With Accordion taught by Randi Parkhurst

Cost: $40 for BAG members, $50 for non-members

In this class we will learn long stitch over tapes binding. We will sew our signatures into an accordion, using book cloth for tapes. We will hide our tape ends with a nifty trick and finish with a hard cover. This structure is a beautiful, flexible, exposed sewing binding that is very strong. This class is appropriate for all levels.

The instructor will provide papers for pages, mat board for cover boards and book cloth.

Students need to bring:

2 decorative papers for inner and outer covers

Self-healing cutting mat

*Bone folder

*Bookbinding awl

*Scissors

X-acto knife with #11 blades or knife with snap-off blades

Bookbinding needle

Linen thread 18/3, waxed or unwaxed, any color

PVA and glue brush or applicator of your choice

 

*These tools are available for loan during class if you prefer.

There is free parking below the 2100 building and street parking on adjacent blocks. The classroom is on the second floor. The 2100 Building is accessible via elevator and stairs.

Class will be filled on a first-come, first served basis with a maximum of 12 students. Registrations will be confirmed via email or phone. 

Randi Parkhurst is a book artist and arts instructor in Olympia, WA. She creates interactive book art that flips, swings, rolls and snaps together, providing a unique view of this versatile medium. All of Randi’s pieces are made with her hand painted papers. Randi has taught at the Penland School of Crafts, Arrowmont School of Art & Craft, Morgan Paper Conservatory, Pacific Northwest Art School, Focus on Book Arts Conference, Letters of Joy Calligraphy Conference and more.

REGISTRATION POLICY: Your registration reserves your place in the class. If the class is filled, a waiting list will be established. You will be notified if you are on the waiting list. If you sign up for the class but cannot attend and your place can be filled from the waiting list you will receive a full refund. If there is no waiting list, but you find a replacement for yourself, you will receive a full refund. If your place cannot be filled, your full registration may be retained to help cover the expenses of the class. If the class must be canceled, we will notify you and issue a full refund.
