“Dimensionalizing the Private Voice: the Bookworks of Julie Chen,” a slide lecture by Julie Chen. Julie Chen has been publishing letterpress printed limited edition artists; books under the Flying Fish imprint for the past ten years. Works at the press often have decidedly three-dimensional personalities as well as intimate facets that draw the reader into more personal interior works within the book form. Julie talked about her work as a book artist, and about the creative process of translating ideas into book form. She showed slides and actual examples of her work. Julie Chen resides in the Bay Area, and is book arts instructor at Mills College.
