Mapping a Direction: Bookwork by Bonnie Stahlecker

Friday, Art Building, Room 312, University of Washington campus

Bonnie Stahlecker has been making books since 1979 and uses the format of the book to tell a visual story. Her recent work often uses her poetry in combination with full page printed images. While the early work was more sculptural, the current books are bound traditionally, yet with contemporary quirks. Her work has been exhibited in numerous national and international exhibitions including the Handmade Book Exhibit, Ingram, Texas and The Art of the Book, Toronto, Ontario.

Bonnie’s background is in typography, papermaking, letterpress printing, and binding. She holds a MFA degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a BF A degree from the University of South Dakota, Vermillion. Among the many sites at which she has conducted workshops are the Southwest Craft Center,  Oregon College of Art and Craft,  Paper and Book Intensive, various sites; Haystack Mountain School of Craft, and Penland School, Penland.
