An in-person event in conjunction with the Society for Calligraphy & Handwriting
Sunday, April 27, 2025 1-3pm
Titan Robotics Warehouse
Come spend an afternoon playing around with book parts while learning more about what the Society of Calligraphy and Handwriting is all about. Bring your basic bookmaking kit* and choose to do one or both of the hands-on projects available to work on.

How would you repurpose a book like this?

BAG and SCH member Lisa Tsang recently inherited a box of these Japanese stab bound Noh books, full of kanji and made of a soft and malleable kozo paper. It makes a wonderful background for ink and paint and an interesting substrate for folding, deconstructing, and rebinding.
Come receive one of your own books (no cost) and see where an afternoon of exploration gets you. Lisa will be on hand to provide prompts, teach calligraphic mark making and demonstrate some origami.

For the structurally-oriented, learn to build an ATC-sized Jacob's Ladder book. These are a fun way to display and share your little art masterpieces.
There will be demonstrations, samples, and a stack of cardstock strips available for your construction practice.
* A basic kit consists of your preferred glue, scissors, snap-off knife, metal ruler, cutting mat, and portable paint set. Optional items include your choice of other mark-making tools such as paint or ink pens, brush and ink, colored pencils, stamps, stencils, collage ephemera, etc.
