at the 2024 Department of Art + Design Faculty Exhibition at Sarah Spurgeon Gallery, Central Washington University


Margaret Ahrens Sahlstrand (1939-2023) was recognized regionally and nationally for her printmaking, drawing, paper-making, paper casting and embossed papers, some of which found their way into her artist books. Through her career at Central Washington University, Margaret influenced generations of art students as mentor and friend. She was active in many arts organizations including the Book Arts Guild at which she presented several times.


The upcoming Department of Art+ Design Faculty Exhibition at Central Washington University will include several pieces of Margaret's work. Joan Cawley Crane and the gallery staff invite BAG members to come see the exhibit and a special showing of additional items including several of Margaret's artist books that Joan has selected from Margaret's archive. We will meet on Saturday November 16, 2024 1:30-4:00pm (PST)

Fall Containment


The Sarah Spurgeon Gallery is a 2-hour drive from Seattle over Snoqualmie Pass via I-90. (Travel could be impacted by heavy snow) If you are planning to attend the event or have questions please contact Kate Leonard (click to email). If you are interested in carpooling--either offering or seeking a ride--Kate will coordinate arrangements.


The faculty exhibit runs from November 14 – December 14,2024.

Regular gallery hours: Monday-Friday, 10 am – 3 pm; Saturday, 1 pm-5 pm.
